- Abstract
The study examines the financial challenges in biodiversity conservation in China. It outlines the global funding gap and specific issues in China, such as low investment intentions from financial institutions and a lack of suitable borrowing entities and repayment sources. The experiences in Yunnan demonstrate the potential for financial empowerment in biodiversity conservation through innovative financing mechanisms and public-private partnerships. It highlights financial supports including insurance, credit, bonds, funds, supply chain finance, innovative products and covers strategies like impact investing and Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES). Finally, the paper concludes with recommendations for strengthening the management of biodiversity-related risks, innovating financing models and products, and integrating ecological resources to promote the conversion of ecological benefits into economic benefits It is hoped that the experiences and recommendations will serve as a reference for other regions exploring financial support for biodiversity to achieve sustainable development.
