Abstract

The low mathematical problem-solving abilities of vocational high school students often stem from the lack of relevance between the learning material and the needs of the Business and Industrial World (DUDI). This gap naturally requires innovative learning designs. This study aims to validate and determine the effectiveness of an innovative learning design that integrates the Teaching Factory model into contextual mathematics learning to significantly improve the mathematical problem-solving abilities of vocational high school students. The research methodology for this study is research design, utilizing the design thinking approach which consists of three stages: preliminary research, prototyping, and evaluation. This research was conducted at SMK Al Manaar Muhammadiyah Pemalang, involving 46 students from two classes. Data was collected thru the results of student and teacher needs questionnaires, learning questionnaires, validation from content, media, and assessment experts, classroom observations, and mathematical problem-solving ability tests. The experimental results show that the developed learning design is valid according to experts and practical for use in learning, and is strengthened by its effectiveness in significantly improving students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. Observation results show that the learning process actively encourages student engagement in the learning process. Therefore, integrating the teaching factory model into contextual mathematics learning is a viable and interesting alternative for mathematics education in vocational high schools and effectively bridges the gap between classroom theory and the demands of the real-world industry.
