Abstract

The increasing degree of population aging level in urban agglomerations poses a great challenge to their development in all aspects. Based on the fifth, sixth and seventh national census data, this paper takes the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration and Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration districts and counties as the spatial research units, and adopts the time-series comparative method, Moran's I index, the Theil coefficient and the geographic detector research method, and the results show that: 1) compared with the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration, the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration enters into the aging society later, and has a short development time and speed; 2) the aging population in the counties of the two city clusters show the spatial distribution characteristics of similar types of aggregation; 3) the differences in population aging between the two city clusters show a tendency to expand; there are obvious intra-regional differences in population aging in the city clusters; 4) from 2010 to 2020, the most important influencing factor on population aging in the two city clusters is population migration, followed by social and economic factors. This indicates that there is a certain spatial compression phenomenon of population aging between Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration and Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration, i.e., the Yangtze River Delta city cluster can provide some ideas on how to solve the problem of population aging for the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration which is a city cluster with rapid development of population aging.
