- Abstract
This paper explores the integration of STEM education and the “new engineering” education paradigm, with a focus on developing students’ mathematical application abilities in engineering education. It analyzes the core components of STEM education and their connection to the “new engineering” concept, investigates current deficiencies in university-level mathematics application ability evaluation systems, and identifies challenges faced by educators. Additionally, this paper proposes teaching reform strategies that incorporate STEM concepts and demonstrates how innovative teaching cases and practice-oriented educational models can enhance students’ mathematical application abilities. These findings provide valuable insights for mathematics education within the context of “new engineering.“
