- Abstract
The “Double First-Class” initiative has transitioned from a supply-oriented approach in its first phase to a demand-oriented one in its second phase, with a heightened emphasis on national strategic priorities and the cultivation of high-level talent. Against this backdrop, and alongside the advancement of the “Healthy China” strategy, the biopharmaceutical industry now requires more diverse and high-caliber pharmaceutical professionals, exposing the limitations of traditional training models. Using the pharmacy discipline at Jinan University as a case study, this paper examines innovative approaches to talent cultivation under the “Double First-Class” framework. Key practices include: establishing an integrated “drug R&D chain–professional curriculum chain” dual-track curriculum system while fostering emerging interdisciplinary fields; constructing a tripartite training mechanism and innovation-entrepreneurship ecosystem that integrates industry, hospitals, and universities to enhance practical capabilities; and broadening global perspectives through a “bringing in + going out” dual-path strategy and the development of an international academic community. The study also addresses persistent challenges, such as insufficient depth in industry-education integration and a shortage of interdisciplinary faculty, and proposes corresponding optimization strategies. These include establishing collaborative innovation centers for industry-education integration and implementing a “Special Interdisciplinary Faculty Development Program.” The findings provide a valuable reference for optimizing pharmaceutical talent cultivation models in Chinese higher education institutions, aligning pharmaceutical education with national strategic needs, and strengthening its capacity to support the development of the biomedicine industry.
