Abstract

This research seeks to examine the breakdown of customs as imaginary others in the short stories of Ha-san Al Banna. Lacan’s Psychoa-nalysis: There is something about arrival. This research is conducted through the identification of the most prominent signs of the short story text based on the mechanisms of metaphor and metonymy. Customs as one of the Cultural aspects are the Legend of people Life Control (as Lacan Phallus). What happens here is that the customs turn into a Symbolic Other in relation to whom the subject and the society acquire structure. Hasan as subject is also deficient because the background has ancestor bersifat ambigu, for Muslims just like Hasan who descend from the Minangkabau area in West Sumatra but live in a Batak surrounding in North Sumatra, so Phallus yang Pejal (grinding) can’t escapable from this. And Hasan Al Banna thus experiences castration from the two surrounding cultures of his life. This induces an identity crisis, leading him to the desire to fulfill and prove himself that he is indeed indigenous of North Sumatra. But Hasan lacked the ability to resist this abstract power that ruled over human lives, even his own. In this way Hasan had the traditions that were the seat of authority, have to go down for the sake of his honour. The failure of traditions sustains his power filled by self-completion.
