Abstract

This study aims to formulate a conceptual framework of Smart Edutourism that integrates digital learning, community empowerment, and sustainable destination development in the peripheral context of Malang Raya. Using a systematic literature review of 48 peer-reviewed articles from 2020–2025, the study identifies four thematic domains: smart tourism infrastructure, digital learning experiences, community-based sustainable practices, and integrated edutourism models. Findings indicate that digital innovations such as AR/VR, gamification, and mobile learning increasingly enhance visitor engagement and environmental awareness, while community participation remains essential to ensure social inclusion and sustainability. However, governance and long-term evaluation frameworks are still underdeveloped. The proposed framework positions Edutourism as a strategic model that bridges experiential learning theory and sustainable development, highlighting the synergy between technology and local knowledge systems. In the case of Malang Raya, digital pedagogy and eco-entrepreneurship can be integrated to promote inclusive, knowledge-driven tourism ecosystems. Ultimately, Smart Edutourism serves not only as an educational innovation but also as a policy instrument supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
