Abstract

[Objective] To explore the effect of social stratification on fertility intention of women of childbearing age from the aspect of fertility cost, to provide reference for improving fertility intention and perfecting fertility service policy. [Methods] Based on the data of 2021 China Comprehensive Social Survey (CGSS 2021), 1050 women aged 20-49 were selected as the research objects, andc2-test and OLS regression were used to analyze the fertility intention of childbearing age women and the influencing factors. [Results] Among the 1050 women of childbearing age, 88 (59.06%) had the desire to have second children, and 12 (8.05%) had the desire to have three children or more. Single factor analysis result showed that there were statistical significant differences in fertility intentions of women of childbearing age with different characteristics of education and occupation in social stratification, age, health, marriage, and policy attitudes (P < 0.05); OLS regression analysis result showed that education and class identity in social stratification, age, health, marriage and policy attitude were all influencing factors of fertility intention (P < 0.05). [Conclusion] The fertility intention of women of childbearing age in China is mainly concentrated on the second child, and the situation of multiple children is not optimistic. It is suggested that measures should be taken to promote the fertility intention of women of childbearing age, from the aspects of policy publicity, education system and curriculum, employment support and social participation, so as to effectively improve the fertility level.
