- Abstract
With the rapid advancement of information technology, online education platforms have become a vital supplement to traditional higher education, offering flexible learning schedules, diverse course content, and interactive methods that transcend time and space constraints. These platforms facilitate the global sharing of educational resources, enhancing learning outcomes, optimizing resource allocation, and improving teaching quality. However, ensuring the sustainable development of online education platforms in terms of educational quality, social equity, and economic viability remains a critical challenge. This study explores how online education platforms can enhance higher education quality within a sustainable development framework. It highlights the platforms’ ability to improve learning effectiveness through personalized and interactive approaches, as well as global resource sharing. Nevertheless, challenges persist in areas such as technological infrastructure, teacher adaptability, and policy regulation. Future development will likely rely on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality to further enhance interactivity and teaching quality, catering to personalized learning needs. Additionally, promoting educational equity and social sustainability will be crucial. To address these challenges, the study recommends strengthening technical support and infrastructure, improving teachers’ online teaching capabilities, establishing robust regulatory and certification systems, and fostering educational equity and social responsibility. Future research should conduct large-scale empirical studies to assess the effectiveness of online education across different regions and disciplines, while also examining the influence of cultural and social factors on platform acceptance. This will provide a more comprehensive perspective for the global development of education.
