- Abstract
The current study investigates the correlation between parenting style and children’s stress coping mechanisms. The sample comprises 168 Chinese participants, aged 16-25, who were assessed using Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9), Parenting bonding instrument (PBI) and Simplified stress coping response (SSCR). The results reveal a positive correlation between the use of approach coping strategy and parent’s allowance of freedom and expression of caring. Conversely, the use of avoidance coping strategy correlates with maternal rejection/indifference, over protection of both parents and parental allowance freedom.
