- Abstract
A unique theoretical framework is presented that offers an integrative approach to extend the role of culture and indigenous concepts in the foundational sphere of Education. It answers the question whether an Indigenous concept of Triguṇa plays a role in Education, and if so, when and how. Following the overview of the concept of Guṇa, it dives into an important discussion of which Guṇa are good or bad and in what conditions entwined with the learning environment. It focusses on the cause and effect of dysfunction (both physical and psychological) in the light of the dominance of Guṇa, that affects learners in many ways. The discussion advocates a new line of thought that proposes two aspects of Guṇa – State Guṇa and Trait Guṇa, and their respective role in the Educational sphere. It provides guidelines for the regulation of Guṇa in an individual through various strategies, aiding holistic learning in Educational context. Implications of the application of Guṇa theory in Education are discussed that covers the dimensions of inclusive learning, career counselling, addressing leaning difficulties, regulating dysfunction, and promoting holistic growth and development. Further, the general implications of Guṇa theory in the field of psychology and suggestions for future researches are presented.
