Abstract

This study looks at recognition and engagement of students in yogā as a component of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). With the increasing pace of modern life and stress related to sedentary habits, there is an increased popularity of yogā to address mental and physical well-being. This study attempts to assess through a survey the level of awareness students have regarding yogā, motivational factors for participation in yogā, frequency of participation, and their relational understanding of different asanas. It also attempts to analyze yogās perceived benefits, the ideal times for practicing yogā, and usefulness of yogā in managing stressors like anxiety and general emotional health. It attempts to analyze the usefulness of yogā as a tool for musculoskeletal discomfort relief among students. Knowing students’ perceptions and experiences will enable the inclusion of yogā practice in educational and health promotion initiatives geared towards holistic development.
