Abstract

The traditional Indian system was based on the four pillars, Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha. ‘Artha’ actually means earning money through legitimate sources and spending it on legitimate reasons. A disciplinary Gurukala mechanism was in place to provide knowledge to the students. And it was entirely based on Vidya and Kalas (Arts). In the flow of time, this system has been changed and turned into the present state, which is designed to provide human resources to the organizations through professional courses like engineering, management, etc. Even after many years and timely revisions in the educational policies still companies are still complaining about the lack of skill sets required for employment among the students. The rate of un employability. The new education policy 2020 has directed to introduction of the syllabus based on the IKS in the current education. For professional courses like Engineering and Management, the students need to develop the skills for employment and upgrade them for sustenance in the current competitive environment. The approach of Indian Shilpashastras(based on Vidya and Kala) can add value to the current education system in this regard. This article reviews the ‘Vidyas’ and ‘Kalas’ in the Shilpasanhitas and how they can be implemented in the professional courses for the welfare of students, industries, and society.
