Abstract

In the current digital age, ensuring the security and integrity of data has never been more vital. Traditional cloud storage services are easy to use and, while great in many use cases, these services can expose information, restrict access to the data, and are susceptible to a single point-of-failure should a server or service go offline, have a data breach, etc. InfiCrypt tackles traditional storage challenges through a decentralized offering based upon blockchain technology and distributed storage systems to create a solution with secure, flexible, and tamper-proof backups away from businesses and learning institutions. The core functionality of the system utilizes the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) for distributed file storage and uses Ethereum smart contracts to ensure data consistency, transparency, and censorship refusal. A key improvement to the system brings together RFC 6979 for the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) prescription for deterministic nonce generation during signature creation. The ECDSA adds to the cryptographic strength of the solutions provided by InfiCrypt by reducing the risks associated with a poor generation of the randomness and established performance from25843 to13403 for non generic reusing of nonces. The decentralized and independent distribution system reduces single points-of-failure and increases trust in transactions, which provide the greatest control the user can have over their data. This paper will discuss the overall architecture of the system, show that blockchain with ECDSA operational improvements covers the gaps in file security inherent with cloud-based services, and provides an assessment of the performance of IPFS on the management of large transfers for a decentralized storage solution.
