- Abstract
This study applies Roland Barthes’s semiotic theory to explore the cultural mechanisms behind ACGN-style clothing in the context of China’s social transformation. The research argues that such apparel is not merely a reproduction of character imagery but rather functions within a cyclical process of “real clothing—image clothing—written clothing,” in which meanings are continuously reassigned, ultimately forming a “myth” that obscures reality. Building upon the concept of the “artificial myth,” the paper proposes a framework for remythologization, aiming to explore how ACGN-style fashion can break free from cultural control and the dependence on the fan economy. The framework suggests a shift toward multi-layered constructions centered on the garments themselves and their cultural narratives, ultimately reshaping the cultural myths and intrinsic meanings of ACGN-style clothing.
