Abstract

Gospel music, as an important part of African American religious culture, has profoundly influenced contemporary popular music since the mid-20th century. Meanwhile, with the gradual rise of popular music, gospel music has begun to enter the popular music market in new forms and has attracted more and more scholars at home and abroad to study gospel music theoretically, but there is still a gap in its fusion with popular music. In this paper, two styles of gospel music, RnB and hip-hop music, are selected as the objects of study, and the development history of gospel music is taken as the starting point. Through a large number of Chinese and foreign literatures and analysis of classical works’ scores, the process of the integration of the two is analysed from the perspective of the evolution of styles, and the integration of the gospel music in modern popular music is analysed from an all-round point of view, so as to reveal the cultural significance and social impacts of the fusion of gospel music, RnB, hip-hop music and RnB music. In the end, it reveals the cultural significance and social impact of the integration of gospel music and RnB and hip-hop music.
