- Abstract
This study investigates the language attitudes toward Chinese among expatriates in Guangzhou and examines the factors influencing their attitudes. Based on questionnaire data and statistical analysis, the findings indicate that expatriates generally hold a positive attitude toward Chinese, particularly in terms of its status and practical value, though emotional attitudes remain relatively weaker. Among the demographic variables, only education and Chinese proficiency significantly affect language attitudes. Further analysis reveals significant positive correlations between Chinese language attitudes, cultural identity, and learning motivation. Cultural identity proves to be the strongest predictor, followed by motivation types, while motivation intensity has the least effect. These results confirm the close relationship between language and culture and provide empirical support for Chinese language education and promotion.
