- Abstract
Indonesia is a pluralistic country, rich in cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity. Mattirowalie Village is a small area within a larger village, where the community exhibits diversity in religious adherence. There is an interesting phenomenon regarding the social relationship patterns within their religious lifestyles. In this hamlet, there is a community group with diverse religious backgrounds, which is distinct from neighboring areas that have only one predominant religion. Observing this phenomenon, the author is interested in conducting a deeper study on the social relationship patterns and religious lifestyles of this multicultural community. This study employs a sociological analysis to reveal the everyday lives of this multicultural community through the lens of symbolic interactionism. It is a field study utilizing qualitative data analysis. Data collection methods include observation and interviews. The study is further explored through George Herbert Mead’s theory of Symbolic Interactionism and Glock & Stark’s model of Religiosity from (Ancok & Suroso, 1995: 77).The findings of this study indicate that, in the social relationship patterns of the community, no differences in identity are apparent, and religion is regarded as a guide for humanizing others. The results of this study serve as a reference for future life, emphasizing religious differences or the application of tolerance in all communities, even in homogeneous societies.
