Abstract

This research aims to reveal the patronage system of punggawa sawi in the novel Pulau by Aspar. This study uses a literary anthropological approach with Levi’s Strauss theory. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative research method. The data collection method is carried out through literature studies. The results of the study show that opposition and relations are dialectically able to show the patronage system of the punggawa sawi in the novel Pulau. This system applies to the fishermen, agricultural sectors, and businesses. Through the opposition and the dialectical relationship of punggawa sawi, the Bugis-Makassar culture can be dynamic in innovating for cultural progress.
