- Abstract
This paper examines the application of AI and big data algorithms in the digital media sector and their societal impacts, using TikTok (Douyin) and Little Red Book as case studies. The research finds that TikTok's real-time, interest-driven recommendation mechanism creates an “attention black hole,” significantly enhancing user immersion and platform engagement but also leading to issues such as information cocoons and content homogenization. Little Red Book's dual-engine recommendation model, combining social and interest-based factors, improves content credibility and commercial conversion, yet faces challenges like homogenized information and the spread of misleading content. The study further analyzes the manifestations and causes of algorithmic effects in urban- rural content divides (TikTok) and beauty product homogenization (Little Red Book), proposing solutions such as enhancing algorithmic transparency, increasing content diversity, and balancing commercialization with user experience. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes the need to balance technological efficiency with social responsibility, offering theoretical insights and practical directions for the sustainable development of the digital media industry.
