- Abstract
This research aims to explore the behavioral motivations of fans and users who engage in online violence and spread rumors and slanders against Chen Meng on the Weibo online media platform. In this qualitative study, semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore in depth the behavioural motives of fans, their social identities, and their understanding of their idol rivals, so as to better understand how such behaviours manifest themselves on online media platforms such as microblogs, to minimize cyber-violence as much as possible, and to provide references for the benign and positive interactions between fans and idol athletes in the future.
