- Abstract
Under the Blooming Cherry Forest is an allegorical modern novel written by Sakaguchi Ango. Published in June 1947, it ranks among his representative works. The author takes the well-known “Cherry Forest” as the title and weaves this image throughout the entire text. As the plot advances to different stages, the depiction of the “Cherry Forest” in the novel presents hierarchical changes, and its narrative functions shift accordingly—these are crucial to interpreting the novel’s core theme of “loneliness”. Taking the image of the “Cherry Forest” in the novel as the thread, this paper examines the author’s reflections and explorations on the essence of “loneliness” from a dynamic perspective, and further discusses the modernistic value of this work.
