It is our great pleasure to present the proceedings of the First International Conference on Mechanics, Materials and Mechatronics (ICM³ 2026), held during 23–25 March 2026 at Mahindra University, Hyderabad, India. Organized by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the conference was conceived as an international forum to bring together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and students to exchange ideas, present recent advances, and foster collaborations across the broad disciplines of mechanics, materials, manufacturing, mechatronics, automation, energy, and propulsion. The conference was organized around the central theme, "Mechanics, Materials and Mechatronics: Engineering the Future," reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of modern engineering research and innovation.

Engineering today is witnessing rapid transformations driven by advances in computational methods, intelligent manufacturing, robotics, sustainable energy systems, advanced materials, and data-driven engineering. Addressing these challenges requires strong integration across traditional disciplinary boundaries. ICM³ 2026 was established with this vision, providing a platform where fundamental scientific research, technological innovations, and industrial applications could be discussed within a common framework.

The conference featured four major technical tracks: Mechanics & Dynamics, Materials & Manufacturing, Mechatronics & Automation, and Energy & Propulsion. These tracks encompassed a wide spectrum of emerging topics, including computational mechanics, fluid and thermal sciences, advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, smart materials, robotics, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, energy storage, battery technologies, aerospace propulsion, and sustainable energy systems. In addition to the technical sessions, the conference hosted distinguished keynote and invited lectures delivered by internationally recognized experts from leading universities, research laboratories, and industry, providing participants with valuable perspectives on current research trends and future technological directions. Pre-conference workshops on Machine Learning in Mechanical Engineering and Robot Operating System (ROS) further strengthened the conference by offering participants hands-on exposure to contemporary engineering tools and methodologies.

The papers included in this volume were selected from submissions received from researchers representing universities, research organizations, and industries from India and abroad. Every submission underwent a rigorous double-blind peer-review process coordinated by the Technical Program Committee and expert reviewers. Each manuscript was evaluated for originality, technical quality, scientific contribution, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the conference themes. Only papers meeting the required standards of scholarship and presentation have been included in these proceedings. The editors sincerely appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and timely efforts of all reviewers, whose constructive feedback significantly enhanced the quality of the published work.

These proceedings, published in the Atlantis Highlights in Engineering series by Atlantis Press, part of Springer Nature, represent contemporary research spanning fundamental investigations, numerical modelling, experimental studies, design methodologies, and industrial applications. Collectively, the contributions illustrate the breadth and vitality of current research in mechanical and allied engineering disciplines while highlighting the growing convergence of classical engineering principles with digital technologies, artificial intelligence, automation, and sustainable engineering practices. We hope that the work presented here will stimulate further research, encourage interdisciplinary collaborations, and contribute meaningfully to future technological developments.

The successful organization of ICM³ 2026 would not have been possible without the support and dedication of many individuals and organizations. We express our sincere gratitude to the leadership of Mahindra University for their continuous encouragement and support.
