- Abstract
The thriving digital economy (DE) development provides a new potent driving force for for advancing both pollution abatement and carbon emission reductions, contributing to regional environmental protection and promoting sustainable economic growth. This study utilizes panel data from 30 Chinese provinces spanning the years 2013 to 2022. Employing a coupling coordination model, we assess the synergistic reduction of haze pollution and carbon emissions (SRHPCE). Additionally, a two-way fixed effects model and an interaction effect model are implemented to explore how DE influences SRHPCE. The empirical findings indicate that: (1) The DE development can significantly enhance SRHPCE. (2) In the process of the impact of DE development on SRHPCE, government environmental governance efficiency can effectively play a positive regulatory role. Finally, the study concludes with several policy recommendations to enhance collaborative strategies for pollution and carbon reduction.
