Abstract

The main aim of this study is to map the intellectual framework and conceptual growth of gender diversity in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ecosystem in a systematic manner. The technique applied is strict bibliometric analysis, based on PRISMA framework, to retrieve and objectively assess 223 high-quality, peer-reviewed articles in the Scopus database and network mapping and spatial analysis were done using VOSviewer software. The findings indicate a change in structure in academic focus towards a more holistic sustainability paradigm based on critical mass theory. This discussion explains these results by establishing that gender diversity is a governance mechanism of a strategic nature that determines reporting transparency and ethical accounting, with a significant moderator of cultural architectures and endogeneity. Finally, female board representation is not a linear function of ESG outcome and requires substantive representation, rather than tokenism. The implications of this study furnish practical, fact-grounded parameters to corporate policy-makers to institutionalize diversity limits.
