- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the dynamics of hoax news that appears in the digital era and how it affects media credibility and public perception. The easy access to information in the digital era is now accompanied by a lot of hoax information, and this has caused a decline in public trust in the media. The researcher used a literature review approach by sifting through previous scientific sources that are relevant to the topic of this research. The relevant sources analyze the main causes of hoaxes, the speed of information on social media, ignoring the accuracy of information, and the economic and political motives for the emergence of hoax news. This research shows that the emergence of hoaxes in this digital age has significantly reduced public trust, created misperceptions, and triggered the birth of social polarization. In conclusion, to suppress and prevent hoaxes, a joint effort is needed from various parties, namely the mass media, government, and society. In addition, there must be a real effort to improve literature in all circles.
