Abstract

The present article aims to present character designs based on Indonesian folklore in Illustration courses. A descriptive method is used to accurately, systematically, and comprehensively document the facts, characteristics, and relationships between the phenomena studied. The research is based on observations of the creative process and the work produced, and is then confirmed with students’ understanding of the object being worked on. Anthropomorphism features the depiction of humans through objects other than humans, either in the form of animals or immovable objects. This approach is employed in the character designs of Indonesian folklore, which are characterised by diversity and richness. The exploration of these characters in depth, and their interpretation into new works, is a fascinating subject that merits further investigation. The result of this study is an exploration of character design that is able to translate today’s visual style.
