Abstract

The research investigates why Indonesian people developed divided opinions about the electric motorcycle subsidy program during the 2026 global energy crisis. The public’s partial understanding of energy transition needs assessment brings danger that could lead to incorrect government energy transition decisions. The research used a mixed-methods explanatory sequential design to analyze YouTube comments through quantitative analysis and to perform thematic analysis through qualitative analysis. The study results show that public opposition stems from anti-oligarchic feelings, which create more spatial awareness than those who support policies show. The findings show that people chose private vehicles for instant security because they panicked about the energy crisis, which made them disregard the facility differences between rural and urban areas. Existing models of energy transition have solely concentrated on an individual’s behavior in terms of energy use. Government is suggested by the research to revise the financing mechanism to the public transit system which would permit everyone involved in energy transition.
