- Abstract
This study aims to explain a transformation fashion subculture process and how the modification of non-Japanese subcultures has led to the construction of aesthetics that are perceived as Japanese. The primary focus is on the transformation of fashion subcultures that were initially influenced by Western culture, later internalized and romanticized within Japan, and eventually reabsorbed and reinterpreted by global communities. Employing a qualitative approach with concept of cultural hybridization and global cultural flows theory, this research contribute to understanding that Japanized fashion subcultures show creative cultural exchange by blending global and local elements. Japanized fashion subculture appear as the formation of new and hybrid identities. Globalization and cultural exchange can give rise to new cultural identities that appear Japanized on a global scale. It further emphasizes that cultural identity in the global era is not fixed but fluid, continuously reproduced, and negotiated.
