The data were analyzed descriptively to see how the influence of English and Arabic learning on the construction of santri identity. The research found that the main influence of English and Arabic language learning is the sense of internationality and modernity on both languages. English is more influential due to the fact of higher exposures and assimilation. Hence, the majority of santri exhibit multicompetence in their language use, characterized by a syntactic blend of English with Javanese or Indonesian. Meanwhile the Arabic language is not comfortably used due to its sacred nature.
