- Abstract
One of the many ways to maintain a culture is by preserving traditional foods. The existence of traditional foods in the modern era reflects the local people’s way of life, derived from their ancestors, and their ‘local’ identity as a particular society. The development of traditional food as a culinary tourism supports the local people’s economy. Their wealth fulfils the government’s sustainable development goals. This research demonstrates how Gule Bustaman, as one of Semarang’s traditional foods, is preserved as a traditional culinary tourism attraction in the city, supporting the local community’s economic well-being. The data were collected by applying Dundee’s folklore field research to explore the history, ingredients, cooking method, and reasons for being a culinary tourism object. The results showed that it is beneficial for a society to preserve traditional food and develop it into a profitable product for a tourism business. It supports the government’s Sustainable Development Goals.
