Abstract

The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the way people access health information. With AI, health information can be accessed quickly and easily, from disease identification to solutions to health problems. The ease and speed of information displayed by AI platforms require users to be careful in taking health information displayed by AI platforms, because the health information displayed by AI is not necessarily accurate. This study aims to explore how people search for health information using AI platforms. The method used in this study is qualitative with a case study approach, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight informants. Informants were selected purposively with the criteria of being aged 20–40 years, having used AI platforms to search for health information, and residing in the city of Semarang. The results of the analysis show that health information searches on AI platforms are triggered by an initial need for information related to personal health conditions in a timely manner. This search behaviour is active and evolves from simple searches to a more in-depth process. Users employ diverse prompting strategies, ranging from general questions to specific prompting strategies. Despite using prompting strategies in information searches on AI platforms, users must remain cautious when extracting information displayed by AI platforms, even if such information is only used as initial information, as AI platforms may also generate inaccurate or biased information.
