Abstract

Prevalence of stunting among children highlights a complex socio-economic issue. Local families, especially a mother struggle with limited access to nutritious food. This study was conducted in Pringkuku Subdistrict, near the tourist area of Watukarung. Exploring mother’s role in decision making related to food selection and preparation for their children, and how these decisions impact stunting. This research will be analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus as the analytical framework. The social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds that shape mother’s knowledge and food practices in Pacitan are explored through qualitative approach, using in-depth interviews and observations as data collection methods. The findings reveal that although economic access has improved due to tourism development, household consumption patterns are still shaped by long standing knowledge and habits. Limited nutritional information, mother’s low awareness of balanced nutrition, and difficulties in accessing nutritious food remain key challenges. This situation shows the urgent need for tourism development to be aligned with efforts to improve nutrition literacy among local communities.
