- Abstract
In many literatures, male authors often exhibit a problematic tendency to portray women through a patriarchal lens, resulting in women being perceived only as subordinate or exploited figures. This research investigates the portrayal of women in several novels by Suparto Brata. In his position as a man, Suparto Brata’s writing frequently explores the dynamics of gender relations, the exploitation of women’s bodies, and their objectification within society. This study aims to analyze the image of women reflected in Suparto Brata’s works. This research bases its analysis on feminist literary criticism theory utilizing qualitative descriptive research methods and literature review. The results indicate that female characters in Suparto Brata’s novels serve as a means to illustrate the discourse of women’s freedom and liberation. Suparto Brata effectively portrays female characters who are tenacious, resilient—never give up in the face of difficulties, and willing to work hard to realize their goals.
