- Abstract
Indonesia has several regulations related to child protection and social media. However, these regulations are fragmented, so there is a need to connect various laws such as the Child Protection Law, the Labor Law, the Ministerial Decree on Protection for Children Engaged in Work to Develop Talents and Interests, the Human Rights Law, and the Electronic Information and Transactions Law. This study aims to answer questions from parents who benefit from using photos or videos of their children on social media, whether this could be considered exploitation of their children. How can content created by parents also adhere to child protection principles to prevent exploitation? The study also compares guidelines issued by UNICEF on Child Online Guidelines. The Indonesian government needs to create specific guidelines for the family content industry—what can and cannot be published, duration of exposure, age limitations for children, and other considerations. Further research is necessary on this matter. Indonesia could also compare regulations with other countries that have established rules on this issue.
