Abstract

Paranoid Schizophrenia is a form of chronic psychotic disorder that has been linked to an increased risk of violent behaviours such as parricides. Although it is classified as a rare incident, parricide has a significant impact on the victim’s family and the community, so it is necessary to explore the risk factors for violent behaviour in people with Schizophrenia. We report on the case of a 35-year-old man who was diagnosed with paranoid Schizophrenia and committed the murder of his biological father, as well as the abuse of his biological mother. The patient has a history of non-adherence to treatment, so that psychotic symptoms in the form of chasing hallucinations and auditory hallucinations recur. Forensic psychiatric evaluation showed that his actions were carried out in acute psychotic episodes with severe impairment of insight. The patient underwent intensive care in a psychiatric department with risperidone, clozapine, and trihexyphenidyl to stabilize his condition. This case report highlights the complex interaction between biological, psychological, and social factors in violent behaviour in people with Schizophrenia. An understanding of psychopathology and risk factors for violent behaviour in patients with Schizophrenia is essential to prevent the occurrence of parricides. Early detection, periodic risk assessment of violence and long-term therapeutic alternatives are key strategies in the management of high-risk psychiatric patients.
