OVERVIEW

For more than two millennia in the West, neurology and psychiatry were considered a single medical specialty, known as neuropsychiatry. Despite their specific therapeutic and scientific interests, Charcot, Freud, Jackson, and Bleuler, among others, envisioned a comprehensive study of the brain and mind as each of these fields separated during the 20th century, a gulf formed. Neurologists focused on conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease that are marked by impairments in cognition and behavior, along with physical symptoms. Psychiatrists, on the other hand, treated mental and emotional conditions such as schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety disorders that did not exhibit any outward symptoms that could be identified by neurological testing of the motor and sensory systems. There is a large treatment gap because many people with mental and neurological illnesses do not have access to a wide range of evidence-based therapies for prevention and treatment. Since affordable treatments in other medical fields are underutilized and not widely available, this problem goes beyond mental and neurological disorders. According to De Savigny and Adams, "evidence-based interventions frequently do not meet their objectives, not due to intrinsic flaws in the intervention, but rather because of the unpredictable dynamics of the surrounding system." Some neurologists may continue to believe that their field has become the most critical area of medical science because of the significant advances in neurobiological knowledge in recent years and the growing awareness of disorders that were once thought to be psychopathological but are now recognized as neuropathological. Because intentionality and intentional conduct (final causation) are brain/mind processes just as crucial as movement and sensory perception, neurologists and psychiatrists need to have a holistic viewpoint. Future neurologists' and psychiatrists' education must have a strong neuroscience foundation, while also highlighting the facets of professional practice that define the work of medical professionals in the head and neck area.

The field of neurological research is expanding quickly. It requires an understanding of psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience. The attendees of this conference will value the most recent developments in neuroscience education. Universitas Sumatera Utara's Faculty of Medicine is hosting the 8th International Conference on Neuroscience, Neurology, and Psychiatry (ICoNaP) 2025 with the theme "The Neuroscience of Lifestyle: How Lifestyle Gives Impact to Health." The conference is intended for psychiatrists, neurologists, general practitioners, and other pertinent specialists. ICoNAP began in 2018 and has since become an annual event. Many countries have invited both local and foreign speakers to the conference. Speakers from Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Australia, India, Thailand, the United States, and France have been chosen by the committee over the years. Speakers from Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, Canada, and Australia will be at this year's conference. At the conference, academics and experts in the fields of neurology, psychiatry, and neuroscience will share knowledge, insights, and ideas. ICoNAPs have so far involved 1307 professionals and scholars, and case studies and essays may be published in international publications. Additionally, over 100 case studies and publications have been published.

THE HYBRID METHOD

The committee used its proprietary platform (https://ocs.usu.ac.id/ICoNaP/ICONAP2025) and a hybrid meeting format to conduct the sixth ICONAP USU conference. We identified several aspects of this platform that are particularly beneficial for such an event during the pandemic and its aftermath. Attendees may choose to watch the conference online or in person. All participants gathered in the conference room at the beginning of each session, and only the speakers were allowed to present their work. Inquiries were accepted in the Q/A section, and presenters answered them both online and in person. At the conference, participants had the chance to share their findings via free papers and e-posters.

TALKS INVITED

Now in its eighth year, the conference provided researchers and professionals in the fields of neurology, psychiatry, and neuroscience with an opportunity to share ideas. Articles and case reports may be published in international journals after being reviewed by experts and selected by the editors. As of this writing, ICoNAP conferences have attracted over a thousand specialists and researchers. Additionally, over 154 case studies and publications have been published. This year, the newspaper covered a wide range of subjects, such as:

• Patient Safety and Ethics
• Sport, Lifestyle, Personality and Sexuality
• Cognitive, Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia
• Lifestyle and Genetics in Schizophrenia
• Lifestyle and Spirituality
• Innovative Topics that Related with Health
• Other Topics that Related with Health
