- Abstract
Tarhirim is a term in the Batak Toba language, spoken by the Batak Toba ethnic group in North Sumatra, Indonesia. This condition occurs when a person has a desire for something, usually something simple, such as food or goods, but it remains unfulfilled. As a result, the individual experiences feelings of anxiety, which can escalate to depression or even manifest as a clear physical illness. However, once the desire is fulfilled, all the symptoms experienced by the patient disappear. This condition is not limited to pregnant women only, but also can occur in individuals of all ages, from children to adults, and even the elderly.
