Abstract

Indonesian families continue to encounter challenges, notably mothers’ limited knowledge regarding child-rearing, which may adversely affect child development. Addressing this issue necessitates enhancing parental competencies. The “Sekolah Orang Tua Hebat” (Excellent Parent School) Program provides a structured intervention to improve child-rearing practices. This study aims to examine the empowerment process of young mothers participating in the program. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study involved mothers and program facilitators as informants. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation at SPS Catleya 71, Sumbersari, Jember. The findings indicate that empowerment aligns with the ACTORS framework encompassing authority, self-confidence, trust, opportunity, responsibility, and support. The participants demonstrated measurable improvements in knowledge, attitudes, and skills, including understanding parental roles, implementing family functions (religious values, affection, protection), applying parenting and discipline strategies, and enhancing communication skills. The study concludes that the program serves as an effective mechanism for empowering mothers, fostering competency in child-rearing practices.
