Abstract

Startups in the e-commerce industry have specific challenges related to operations, such as limited resources, expectations to scale quickly, and continuous creative development. With challenges as previously mentioned, workflow automation is becoming strategic to address challenges within the e-commerce context. Workflow automation can reduce manual errors, streamline processes, and manage efficiency and productivity. In this research paper, we examine the use of workflow automation in a growing global e- commerce marketplace for sustainable, biodegradable, and eco-friendly products. We contextually surveyed via a mixed-method approach: in-depth interviews, direct observations of the process, and working KPI numbers taken from different departments of the organisation. The use of targeted workflow automation can vastly improve efficiency, the overall well-being of employees, and ensure members of teams are being data-driven in their decision-making in an ever-changing e-commerce environment. This paper is structured in terms of implications for theory: In relation to the wider research on startup precedents, practice refers to our intended use of analyzing the use of workflow processes, and opportunities for future research.
