Development of Roundabout to Improve the Performance of the Unsignalized Intersection in Cimahi City

Abstract

Performance improvement of the Pemkot-Jati Serut Intersection is needed to reduce congestion and enabling smoother traffic flow. The objective of this study is to identify the performance of the Pemkot-Jati Serut Intersection and to formulate recommendations for intersection countermeasures. The method used to analyse the intersection’s performance is based on the Geometric Road Design Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. The results of the analysis show that the construction of a roundabout can reduce the degree of saturation by between 10.76% to 55.26%. Meanwhile, the construction of a roundabout can also improve the level of service,, all approach lanes will achieve a level of service C. The construction of the roundabout will require road widening. This widening requires land acquisition, specifically in a commercial area that includes retail shops and the Cimahi City Government Library, covering an area of approximately 389.40 m2 around the intersection. In general, it can be concluded that the construction of a roundabout is an effective approach to improving the performance of the Pemkot-Jati Serut Intersection, as it reduces the degree of saturation and enhances the level of service.
