- Abstract
Marcel Duchamp is one of the most influential western artists in the 20th century, and also the only artist in the history of western art who holds the banner of anti-art but is recorded in the history of art. Duchamp’s art career can be divided into three stages: learning period, cubism period and anti-art period. His art works embody his artistic ideas of advocating freedom, damaging criterion and opposing meanings. Under the guidance of Duchamp’s artistic concept, postmodernism has risen and flourished, evolving many artistic varieties. Duchamp changed the trend of art in the 20th century and is known as the pioneer of postmodern art.
