- Abstract
This article selects 787 students from 4 schools in Dongcheng District, Beijing as the survey subjects, collects general demographic information of students, and uses the Self Rating Depression Scale (SDS) to investigate their depression status. 808 questionnaires were distributed and collected, with a recovery rate of 100%. 787 valid questionnaires had a response rate of 97.4%. Among the 787 cases, 145 had symptoms of depression, accounting for 18.4%. Graduation class, only child, family type, whether to live on campus, academic performance, smoking, drinking, and participating in sports activities are all related to the occurrence of depression in middle school students, and there is a statistically significant difference between groups (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis shows that incomplete families and graduating classes have a high risk of depression, and students who smoke, drink alcohol, and do not exercise have a high risk of depression. Regular physical exercise is one of the protective factors for depression. For middle school students with depression, we provide suggestions such as offering happy growth courses, providing timely psychological support, and implementing physical therapy to improve their mental health.
