Abstract

Focusing on the education of migrant children in China, this study first analyzes the main characteristics of migrant children in China in terms of number, age and gender structure, and type of migration, and finds that the number of migrant children in China has continued to grow rapidly in recent years, with male migrant children accounting for a larger proportion than female migrant children, and mainly migrating within the province. Secondly, the study provides a detailed analysis of the real challenges facing the education of migrant children in China. It mainly includes the enrollment dilemma of migrant children, such as the inability to equally enjoy the right to enter public schools. Schools for the children of migrant workers are mainly for migrant workers, and their educational conditions and teachers are significantly lower than those of public schools. For example, migrant children are unable to take the high school entrance exam and the college entrance exam in the cities where they move due to restrictions in the household registration system. The plight of migrant children's social integration, such as the discrimination that migrant children experience in their daily interactions with urban children in public schools. Finally, in view of the above problems, this study puts forward corresponding policy recommendations such as accelerating the reform of the household registration system and the reform of the financial system, scientifically planning the allocation of educational resources, and supporting social forces to set up schools for children of migrant workers.
