- Abstract
The development of education before the fall of Hong Kong was closely linked with NGOs. NGOs are major players in education in Hong Kong, and Chinese play an important role in it. Chinese schools resisted the demands of the British Hong Kong government to promote English teaching and invited the people from mainland China to promote the New Culture Movement. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, teachers and students of schools run by Chinese people supported the War of Resistance in China through donations and charity sales. Nationalism became a prominent feature of Hong Kong education during this period.
