- Abstract
Traditional music education has long been acknowledged as crucial. China has increasingly emphasized it in recent years, particularly in compulsory education. Despite extensive research on this topic, there still remains a gap in the literature offering a comprehensive review of Chinese traditional music education at the compulsory education level. This study mainly focuses on a systematic review of research on Chinese traditional music education in compulsory education between 2020 and 2023. It proposed the research question: 1) What types of Chinese traditional music have been incorporated into classrooms?; 2) How is Chinese traditional music integrated into classrooms? The findings of this study present the types of traditional music education and predominant teaching methods mentioned in research on mandatory education from 2020 to 2023. This study aims to provide insight into the development of Chinese traditional music education.
