Abstract

Wellness tourism has garnered increasing attention as a strategic approach to post-pandemic recovery, particularly in rural destinations that integrate nature, culture, and health-based experiences. This study examines the roles and interactions of stakeholders in the development of wellness tourism in Bilebante Green Tourism Village, Central Lombok—a community-based destination recognized for its agricultural landscapes, traditional healing practices, and sustainable local initiatives. Adopting a qualitative descriptive approach, the research utilizes the Pentahelix model, which includes government, local communities, businesses, academia, and media. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, with eleven key informants purposively selected for in-depth interviews based on their involvement in wellness tourism initiatives, local governance, and community dynamics. The analysis aims to reveal how collaborative governance and stakeholder engagement contribute to the effective integration of wellness principles into local tourism development. The findings indicate that stakeholder synergy is critical in mobilizing local knowledge, optimizing natural and human resources, and co-producing wellness tourism packages grounded in indigenous values. The government facilitates enabling regulations and capacity-building programs, while the private sector contributes through investments in wellness services and infrastructure. Local communities play a central role in preserving cultural authenticity, providing herbal-based therapies, and managing micro-enterprises. Academic institutions and the media support knowledge dissemination and promotional efforts. This study contributes to the discourse on wellness tourism by highlighting the importance of inclusive stakeholder collaboration in fostering sustainable rural tourism development. It also offers practical insights for policymakers and tourism planners aiming to leverage wellness tourism as a means of local empowerment, economic resilience, and cultural preservation.
