Abstract

This study examines the impact of using AI (Artificial Intelligence) based English applications on the Speaking skills of students in the Civil Engineering D3 Study Program, Bali State Polytechnic. On the one hand, AI is a new technology that makes human life easier, including in the use of learning activities. Many also feel that the use of AI can harm the learning process, such as issues related to plagiarism and the leakage of personal data. However, this study will be limited to the impact of using AI-based applications (Learna: Learn English) as an interactive English learning tool, specifically whether it affects student learning outcomes. The respondents are fourth-semester students in the D3 study program, with many having two classes, totaling 54 people. This study is a type of post-research with a control group. The Pre-test and Post-test data were then analyzed using the SPSS v.30 program. Based on research into learning with the help of AI-based English applications, it can be concluded that the learning carried out with Learna AI (Learn English) has a positive impact on students. This is evidenced by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test results, which show a significant increase in scores in the experimental class between Pre-test and Post-test scores, with a value of Z = -4.610 and p < 0.001. This shows that the use of AI-based applications (Learna: Learn English) in learning has a significant impact on improving English learning outcomes.
