- Abstract
Kendari Bay in Southeast Sulawesi boasts extraordinary natural potential, making it a leading destination renowned for its natural beauty. Sustainable tourism development in this area is crucial for maintaining coastal tourism’s sustainability while enhancing local communities’ economic welfare through business empowerment and active community participation. This study aims to identify potential tourist attractions, analyze obstacles hindering development, and examine efforts oriented towards sustainability principles in Kendari Bay. This research uses a literature study as its methodological approach. The results of this study indicate that Kendari Bay features various notable objects, including the Kendari Bay Bridge, Al-Alam Mosque, Kendari Bay Platform, Kendari Beach, Tracking Mangrove, and Kendari Water Sports. However, Kendari Bay faces several challenges, including environmental degradation, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and issues with management and governance. Efforts to develop tourism sustainably in Kendari Bay include preparing a tourism master plan that involves various parties in Kendari Bay. This study concludes that coastal tourism development in Kendari Bay requires cross-sector synergy to ensure environmental sustainability and long-term economic benefits for local communities.
