Abstract

In international cultural exchange, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) plays an important role, which is related to the national development strategy as well as the recognition and acceptance in the international context. However, little research has been done on ICH aesthetic education in international cultural exchange, thus it is necessary to use the course as a medium to reform the teaching and learning process in order to enhance the effect of cultural exchange and achieve a more effective dissemination of ICH. Based on the cultural exchange programme between the School of Future Design of Beijing Normal University and five universities in Kyrgyzstan, this study is based on the theory of cultural empathy, and uses a variety of teaching methods and teaching resources of intangible cultural heritage to improve the students’ comprehensive abilities such as esthetic ability, innovation ability, management ability, and collaboration ability through the teaching mode of “teaching for learning”. Through the teaching practice of cross-cultural ICH workshop, the ICH international exchange teaching model under the perspective of empathy’ was proposed. Teaching practice shows that the application of this model can enhance students’ sense of responsibility for the inheritance and protection of ICH, their understanding and tolerance of other cultures and customs, and their ability of cross-cultural communication. This helps to expand the international communication path of ICH, and at the same time provides theoretical and practical reference for the exchange of intangible cultural heritage in the ‘Belt and Road’.
